Central Office Technician

Job Description:
The Central Office Technician is responsible for assisting in all aspects of Central Office operations where needed. The Central Office Technician provides support through many tools and technologies; computers, software, servers, systems, telephony, networks, electronics, transport (fiber optics, copper, coax), test equipment, power, and custom applications.

Typical Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional call out, weekend, or night work is possible.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Excellent customer service to handle complex situations.
• 2+ years of IT experience or degree.
• Networking knowledge required (IP, MAC addresses, subnets, VLAN, routing, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet).
• Knowledge of networking equipment; routers, switches, modems, Wi-Fi access points, set-top boxes.
• Knowledge of telco technologies; TDM, ISDN, T1, T3, OC rates, SONET, ATM.
• Knowledge of legacy telephony; analog, digital, PBX, key systems, phones, fax.
• Knowledge of plant; installing/diagnosing cables, fiber splitters/jumpers, aggregation platforms (Adtran TA5000)
• VoIP/SIP experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with small/large telephone (HPBX) installations and repairs.
• Experience with testing telephony, private line, and IP based circuits.
• Experience with material logistics, documentation, inventory, labeling, and business processes.
• Experience with basic project management; gathering data, ordering, implementation, closure/acceptance.
• Previous telephone company, central office, or ISP experience is preferred but not required.
• Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Ability to learn new technology and skills as they emerge.
• Analytical ability to identify, research, and resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
• Must be able to work alone and as part of a team.
• Must be able to multitask while handling interruptions.
• Dependable attendance.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.

Physical Requirements:
• Occasionally lifting items up to 40lbs.
• Sitting 60% to 70% of the time.
• Ability to stand, kneel, and climb aloft from ladders.
• Frequent keyboarding.
